In line with piglet trials, fattening pig trials are also set up in 12 pens of 10 pigs. The layout of the fattening pigs is done at the customer's request. The pigs are always weighed on set-up and the day before slaughter. Additional weighings can always be carried out at the customer's request. In this way, the daily growth in different phases can be determined.
There is the possibility of giving each loft a specific feed. The feeder has a mixer that specifically composes the feed for each pen. Many possible mix combinations can thus be made. The feed computer determines the daily quantity of feed administered so that feed intake can be monitored on a pen-specific basis. The feed troughs are equipped to feed pellets, crumbs or meal. In this way, comparisons between feed types can also be made.
Before slaughter, each fattening pig is specifically marked so that the slaughterhouse records of each fattening pig are made available to the customer.

Besides the above general data, additional determinations such as behaviour, aggression, health monitoring etc. are also possible. Each fattening pig compartment also has specific pen enrichment so that research can also be carried out in that area.

Meat pigs department

The fattening pig unit consists entirely of a concrete pen layout. Only above walls separating the departments are made of plastic. The pen partitions between the pens are not completely closed so that pigs from other pens can see each other and have contact with each other. The floor consists of a concrete grid at the front and rear, and a convex floor is provided in the middle. There is no air scrubber on the farm so we work with sloping pit walls. There is also a feeder and drinking trough in each pen separately so we can record feed intake per pen. In the department there is a central feeding corridor with 6 pens on each side where the fattening pigs are. A fan is placed centrally in the department above the feed alley. ceiling ventilation is used in the department.
