VeeKompas introduces itself at Agridagen

During Agridagen, you will be introduced to VeeKompas, the new information point that supports livestock farmers with questions about emissions and related regulations. The initiative aims to give farmers a handle on an increasingly complex regulatory framework and guide them in controlling and reducing emissions on their farms.

Launch event at Agridagen

During Agridagen visitors can visit the VeeKompas-stand for a first introduction to the operation of the Info Point. Advisors will explain the support offered and inform about the possibility of individual advice tailored to the company. About VeeKompas

Regulations around ammonia, odour, particulate matter and greenhouse gases directly influence the permits and future of livestock farms today. Which measures are appropriate is not always obvious. With VeeKompas, there will therefore be one central point of contact for emission advice.

The info point is an initiative commissioned by the Flemish government and coordinated by Boerenbond Projecten, in collaboration with Inagro, Proefbedrijf Pluimveehouderij, Hooibeekhoeve, the Research and Training Centre for Agriculture (PVL) and ILVO. VeeKompas is aimed at cattle, pig and poultry farmers, as well as keepers of small ruminants, in both conventional and organic farming.

Digital support and tailor-made advice

The operation of VeeKompas relies on a digital platform, which is currently being further developed and will soon be available. Regulations and policy frameworks are explained there in an accessible way and emission-reducing measures and techniques are presented in practical terms via info sheets and infographics. In addition, farmers will find information on investment support options.

Besides digital knowledge sharing, VeeKompas also offers individual support in the field. Advisors from the partner organisations provide emissions advice tailored to the farm, including through farm visits where various emission indicators and possible measures are mapped. This also looks at the impact on other business aspects, such as energy and water consumption, labour organisation and, where possible, animal welfare.

Guidance and knowledge sharing

For livestock farmers who want to think about the future of their business provides VeeKompas (re)orientation trajectories with intensive coaching. Together with a business coach, possible future scenarios are explored and a feasible action plan is drawn up. In addition, the info point focuses on practical knowledge exchange via thematic group moments, where experiences and solutions are shared between fellow livestock farmers.
